The Velo VL60 HD saddle is a comfort saddle that has been placed on the Double Density base to provide the maximum possible shock suspension. The Double Density base also provides a significant level of firmness so that the rider does not feel as though they are sinking into the seat.

The saddle has an additional shock absorbent system with the Elastomer Suspension taking the uneven roads and trails in its stride. The saddle sits on steel rails and the comfort features include the O-Zone Center Cut to give the rider relief from any possible pressure in their delicate parts.

Serfas Bicycle Saddles

Serfas began life primarily as a bicycle saddle manufacturer and has gradually expanded to produce an extensive range of bike accessories, apparel and components. The Serfas range is particularly extensive with saddles designed to give the rider a great deal of comfort while also ensuring the weight of the saddle is not overly heavy.

The saddles in the Serfas range are divided into 5 separate categories to give riders a choice based on their comfort needs, their riding style and their budget restrictions. Within each of the saddle categories lie a choice of either men’s or women’s saddles as well as a diverse range of saddle widths and padding options. The five saddle categories are the RX saddles, E-Gel Saddles, Dual Density Saddles, Reactive Gel Saddles and the Performance Saddles.

The RX saddles are quite distinctive in their design because they feature a full length cut-out groove running down their length. This is a channel that has been created to reduce the pressure on the softer tissue of the body which will increase the blood flow around your vital body parts.

The E-Gel saddles (pictured at top of page) are comfort saddles that have been provided with additional comfort to the standard Dual Density Saddles by taking the original base and applying a 30% thicker layer of gel that has been enclosed by a soflex material. As well as the gel padding the saddle has also been designed with the Deep Groove through the length of the saddle.

The Dual Density saddles have been created to provide as smooth a ride as possible with vibration dampening built into each one. This vibration dampening comes in the form of shock absorbing rubber inserts that have been molded into the base of the seat.

The Reactive Gel saddles give the rider a layer of gel that allows them to move in concert with the saddle during the pedalling action. These saddles are another type of comfort saddle that features the Serfas Deep Groove design.

The Serfas Performance saddles are the thoroughbred models made by the company and feature all of the expected weight saving features that other manufacturers use. Carbon fiber, titanium or chromoly rails give the rider the choice in weight and price differences and a variety of anatomical relief options means there are plenty of options available to suit a wide range of competitive riders.

The range of Serfas bicycle saddles provides the rider with amny of the same types of features that other major manufacturers do. The emphasis is placed on comfort for the majority of saddles but weight is still dealt with for those saddles that are required to provide outstanding performance either on the road or off it.

The Velo Plush VL10 HD Saddle is a comfort saddle that doesn’t look like one. When you first sit on the saddle you might discover that it doesn’t immediately feel like a comfort saddle either. It doesn’t feature the softness you might expect from a well padded saddle but, after only a short amount of riding the padding will begin to soften as the saddle shapes itself more to the contours of the body.

The saddle features quite an aerodynamic profile with a narrow overall appearance to ensure the rider’s comfort is maximized. The saddle also uses the double density base which is colloquially referred to as the D2 base and this means it is made of materials with two densities. The purpose of the double density base is to provide as much suspension and firmness as possible while also seeking a softness that will give the rider more of a padded feeling.

The saddle has also been designed with the section that the company refers to as the O-Zone which is a cut out section to relieve pressure on the more delicate parts of the body. Finally, the HD in the saddle’s name refers to the High Density foam fill that is used to give the saddle its padding.

The Selle San Marco Zoncolan Racing Arrowhead saddle takes the long and streamlined profile of the Zoncolan saddle and both increases the comfort and reduces the weight with the Arrowhead cut-out section. This is a climbing saddle and the support and ability to move around on the saddle is complemented by the anatomical features of the cut-out system. The Zoncolan Racing Arrowhead model may be used as either a road racing or off-road style of saddle and it features a carbon fiber reinforced plastic shell for a strong saddle that is also light and flexible. The rails are Xsilite, a compound that features silicon particles that have been mixed with titanium and carbon.

An important feature of the Zoncolan is the design of the nose which has been set at such an angle as to ensure there is minimal rubbing on the adductor muscles of the thighs. The Zoncolan Racing Arrowhead consists of the same features of the original Zoncolan Racing saddle such as a carbon fiber reinforced plastic shell that gives a strong and flexible seat that is also lightweight. The saddle is padded with light EVA foam of varying thicknesses at different points to increase the ergonomics of the saddle and ensuring comfort is maintained without the expense of added weight. Where the saddle differs is in the cover design that features the distinctive Racing Team markings.

The cover is a breathable MicroFiber material that is hard wearing and maintains the underlying shape that the padding provides. The surface of the cover is textured to reduce the amount of slip that the rider might otherwise experience.

It is a fact that bicycle saddles are a very personal choice and just because one saddle suits one type of rider doesn’t mean it will feel the least bit comfortable for the next. So it is very rare that a saddle comes along that gets an almost universal thumbs up when it comes to comfort. The Selle San Marco Rolls saddle appears to be that type of saddle.
